From this week shoppers will able to browse and buy products directly from a business’ Facebook Page or Instagram profile. Great news for small business, but what are Facebook Shops and how do they work?
Well, Facebook Shops is a free to use feature for small businesses who want to sell their products on Facebook’s core platforms. These online shops will soon be visible on a Facebook page or Instagram profile.
How do Facebook Shops work?
When setting up a Shop, businesses can choose which products they want to feature and they can also tailor the look of their shop with a cover image and accent colours.
Shoppers can find Shops via businesses Facebook pages and Instagram profiles – where they can then browse the seller’s products/services, save products they’re interested in and place an order – either through the business’ website or without leaving the app.
Although basic at the moment, there are a lot more shopping-focused features to come. In the US, there will be a new Instagram Shop tab, like the Explore tab, which allows users to filter, discover and explore products. Soon, sellers will also be able to allow people to shop directly from an Instagram Live or Facebook Live video. Facebook is also testing a loyalty programme, so users can earn points via shopping on Facebook Shops.
What’s more, Shops will also be rolled out on Messenger and WhatsApp in the near future, giving users the ability to message a business through WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram to ask questions, get support and track deliveries.
How can businesses manage Facebook Shops?
Well, businesses will be able to use third-party platforms like Shopify to manage their Facebook Shops, as well as the ads tied to those Shops. Facebook Shops allows merchants like Shopify to control the customisation and merchandising for shops inside Facebook and Instagram while managing their products, inventory, orders, and fulfilment directly from within Shopify.
When will Facebook Shops be available globally?
Facebook has already started to roll out Shops in the US and the Instagram rollout will happen in the Summer. Facebook said it expects to rollout Shops globally before Winter 2020.
…we all know that there are lots of small businesses who’re struggling amid the pandemic but Facebook Shops could offer a unique way to boost business in these uncertain times and bring more businesses online. Facebook said their “goal is to make shopping seamless and empower anyone from a small business owner to a global brand to use our apps to connect with customers.”
This is undoubtedly the next step in Facebook’s plan to encourage people to shop and spend more through its platforms. So, now you know what Facebook Shops are, what they do and how to use them, will you be jumping aboard?
